It's getting to close for comfort!

Good idea to bone up on biosecurity practices.... for all of us. Right now I have no chickens may be a blessing for me. But down the road when i get the new coop done I most definately will be setting up for bio security... the only problem would be doing a covered run... Sigh I may Have to go back to tarps...

Had to butcher and process 3 cockerels this morning. 7 birds crowing yesterday in the springlike weather drove me nuts and they're my birds - not to mention the neighbors. It was non-stop. Each bird was crowing at least once a minute.
I hate processing day but so happy when it's done.
I'm on my way to our chicken meetup to share chicken and egg recipes.
At my last processing class, we were talking about the organs that can be used. One of the members present is a youngish Chinese woman. Someone asked if you can eat the lungs. She said, "Chinese people don't eat the lungs and if Chinese people don't eat something, it's not edible."

There will be less feather loss on the hens too. I sold a bunch of hens/pullets so I'm down to about 20 females and 4 cocks will work out so much better. If I can figure out which one has the most flaws, he'll go too. I have 4 chicks of which one is a cockerel and I'll be hatching a bunch soon.

I understand CC I am down to 4 cockerels this year but the same thing going on with our cockerels crowing like crazy! I don't have any to spare so far though.

Sounds like your class will be interesting. It would be nice if there was something like that around here. :)

I am in town to pick up a trap. A possum has gotten way too bold. Was eatting out of a container of dog food within a couple of minutes of me setting it on the ground while I stepped into the barn to put feed in the birds feeders. This morning I found a goose egg eaten.

The possum has to go....
