The Old Folks Home

Actually, if you make it 8 foot wide, you would get a middle height of about 6 feet, and you could cover both ends using 3 sheets of plywood, one whole on the bottom, and splitting it lengthwise to cover the top 2 feet in both ends. If you frame in a door, you might even manage with one sheet per end, if you use the part for the door as the top, and make a netted door. Hmm, interesting ideas.

I was just getting one of those myself.

If I made a level 10 x 12 frame out of treated wood, and put the hoop part on top of that, it would raise the ceiling height (I'm nearly 6' tall) solving both problems. I could compost in it and raise my juvenile birds there from January through March . I will need two of them so I can separate the cockerels from the pullets. Then I could remove the top and garden in it from April through the summer. I could add compost materials all fall and winter, repeating the process starting in January.

I don;t think I even cut any wood... I just tried to find the right shape pieces that would fit:

See? I just overlapped them.

We also have a free-form coop from scraps. There's definitely classism here on the farm: the goats have a nice house that we built, the chickens and turkeys likewise have a great coop. The ducks? They got whatever we could throw together from scraps.

Wisher, if you're using cattle panels, think about a hoop house.

Upcycling! My favorite type of building.

@Wisher1000 , good luck with your math. LOL I leave that to others, I design in my head and DH has to make it happen.

The plan was to buy a new Brinsea 20 advance but then I found this on craigslist, I don't need one this big but if it is a good deal it isn't much more than the brinsea, I can't find out anything about it, anyone ever heard of it??

Always so entertaining when someone "tries" to carry on a serious conversation but...........

Math??? Bama, I'm with you!!! (tho I must admit I have been known to use a carpenter's square occasionally-now, if I could just get DH to use it!)

I like Alaskan's approach with the super glue. Used it more than once on myself and the critters. Tho you can now buy the same stuff the emergency rooms at pharmacies. Oh, I did find out you can also get the exact same thing cheaper from the mailorder pet suppliers.

Wow Beercan! That is one very serious incubator!
Personally, I am so proud of myself. I have managed to totally avoid succumbing to chicken math this spring (tho I do admit I am trying to figure out how to talk the DH into getting me a pair of mini goats for my birthday
