The Old Folks Home

I took my wifes elderly aunt and uncle out to a buffet last week. The waitress asked if we were all senior citizens.

It hurt.

Really hurt.

Worl cup semi final South Africa vs New Zealand

basic stuff

cricket is not hit and run like baseball.

there are 11 players on a team but there have to be 2 at bat at any one time so there are 10 outs in an innings

the world cup is one innings each

the non batting team has to field atleast 5 bowlers. a maximum of 10 overs each, an over is 6 balls bowled from an end. after the over, the next bowler delivers ball from other end

so the winner is the team with the most runs after 50 overs (300 balls)

outs are caught and run out like baseball but also bowled - if the ball hits the stumps, and leg before wicket - leg is used to prevent the ball hitting wicket

enjoy

sounds like a tamer version of Over the line.....

Now I have to go take a look at the link.... I have never seen cricket.

Last over the line team I heard the name of was "Fritz and T**s"

I would share a video but you should look it up for yourselves.... NOT for the easily offended.

On a completely random note... I know some of you have or want bees. There's a national thing going on right now sponsored by Bayer.

"Let’s grow 50 million flowers and increase forage areas to ensure bees have access to the food they need. Each seed packet of 200 seeds gets us just a little closer. Share a post about how you helped bees using the hashtag #FeedABee. For more information, please visit FeedABee.Bayer.us."

If you would like a free packet of flower seeds, please visit the site. Here's a report passed on by one of our bee club officers:

"FEED a BEE" CAMPAIGN FAR OUTSTRIPS EXPECTATIONS

Bees fascinate people and nearly everyone we encounter wants to do something to improve bee health. That’s why we launched the 'Feed a Bee' campaign to plant 50 million flowers this year.

I’m happy to report it seems our goal might be a little low! We officially launched the campaign last week and this week it seemed to go a bit viral. It was featured on a site operated by the Today show. By this afternoon, we had reached 15 million flowers! That’s more than 5,000 seed packets that have been requested from around the country. The 'Feed a Bee 'website has had more than 50,000 unique visitors this week alone. Wow! Thanks to all of you who have shared this effort. If you need more information, visit
www.feedabee.com.

I already ordered my packet and brought the flower total to 25,679,866

Hi all Newbies! Welcome to TOFH! Sorry for the late introduction.

I'm Peep Show and have been with BYC for five years now and am sometimes known for too often channeling her inner Martha.

The past two years were kind of hectic with far too much travel between three states for work assignments and my mother's estate matters. So decided to consolidate and settle in one place, that being New Mexico. Lived in California for 45 years and Las Vegas, NV, for 10. Worked in the legal field, once upon a time had a stud farm, dabbled in art, married a second time to a therapist who keeps me sane (he says I'm an easy keeper as my pathologies are manageable), and at present am in the midst of a long-term project of rehabbing the house we're living in: a wonderful place with great structure but way outdated and neglected and decorated by someone who no doubt was color blind (major painting corrections). It's kind of a farmette with lots of fruit trees, a cider orchard, a greenhouse (soon to be art studio) and a huge vegetable garden that we're in the midst of rejuvenating and formal gardens out front and back, which has me wracking my brains for when I was a Master Gardener a couple of decades ago. Lots of TLC spent on the yard the past year or so, but it's finally coming around.

Built my own chicken coop myself which I'll detail for BYC at some point when I get the run finished on it... I call it my "challenge" coop because all the building materials for it had to fit in a Hyundai and I was the solo person on it for design and construction, not being well-versed in either but blessed with dominant engineering genes so concepts could become reality. Even without the chickens' playground it's functioning well...the girls inside are happy and producing at nearly 100% daily. I'd have more chickens, but DH is pointing out the foibles of my hatchaholic tendencies and politely inquiring when the back bedroom will be incubator/chick/brooder/grow-out pen free. We know what the answer would be if I had my druthers, but we have company pending.

I haven't been on BYC lately and hardly lurking because right now we're jamming with getting ready for Spring, which means finishing up the winter cleanup which we kind of neglected. Mea culpa, Life gets in the way....in a good way (although I daresay doing one's taxes doesn't count towards that feeling except for when the envelope is delivered to the Post Office; glad that paper/receipt wallow is out of the dining room.)

We -- the collective us in this forum -- have a wealth of experience spread amongst us, which is a blessing as there's usually an answer to any question and far more entertaining than Google.
