Hi!

It is a great day. Banana bread was great and I am heating up some home made minestrone soup for lunch.

I guess I just cannot do homemade bread well. I bought a bread maker and it came with a book of recipes and I can just pour everything in the pan and use the express button and have bread ready in an hour and it's good bread! I can also make jam and jelly in it in an hour and it's good. So I guess I cheat...

But I can't do it all other wise.

I think I may request one for Christmas. Can't hurt.

I use a kitchen aid mixer to kneed the dough and then shape by hand.

bread machines are fairly useless and only make one oddly shaped loaf. I make much better bread without the need to modify and customize recipes.

I did this for sourdough in a bread machine for a missionary back in the early 90's. What a hassle!

I don't mind the shape I bought some bread bags with the twist ties and the loaf fits in the bags just fine. The loaf reminds me of the old pan style bread that women made back in the day before there were ovens. I tried to make some homemade bread a few times and for me it is just to much work and when I did the bread in the bread maker I could not taste the difference and it was easier and quicker. But everyone has their own way of doing things! I know my sister used to make 20 loaves of bread at a time and freeze the dough so she could take it out and pop it in the oven when she wanted fresh bread but it took her all day.

I have the same problem with odd shaped loaves in the bread machine but we do use it sometimes to knead the dough when I'm running behind.

Making 2+ loaves of bread a week for years, I still screw up sometimes. So don't feel bad.
