I did ok... But hated homework as well... I wound up doing my calculus homework the half hour before class started... The part that clicked for me was learning to apply it in the real world finding out that telephone wires hang in a parabolic curve... the formula for it covers two notebook pages.... That I loved along with drawing the graphs....

but FORGET doing times tables or learning long division..... or basic algebra... I HATED it.... Multiplying two algebraic formulas though now that got interesting.

For what its worth NOW I couldnt do any of it....

I loved doing calculus problems. I made it through Calc III (before I decided I wasn't a math major, even though I wrecked the curve for everyone in the class) not having any idea how to actually apply it to the real world, but I was great at solving them.

best math teacher I had was a PreCalculus teacher... first thing she said when we all sat down for the very first class.... "If you thing just because you are in a math class dont think you are going to get out of writing" I liked her immediately... Not only did she work our butts off working formulas we had to write out in word form what we were doing and why. And why it worked.

I turned a term paper in on a four foot long piece of freezer paper.... explaining how a constant width curve worked.... Half of it was drawings and graphs and math half was written descriptions of the proof. I loved it.... she loved it she had never had a student do it that way.

I have always had a sketch or note pad with me when ever I have to describe stuff or jobs to other people.
