SCG, why would the quilt look better in the dark? It's BEAUTIFUL! I'd love an apron inspired by that quilt!

So..scenes from my incubating room last night

my bf said this will help the heat conduct and is safe.

I have the hovabator wrapped up in the sheets with a heating pad on low, on day 4, 99f and 70%humidity. I will take some water out later today.

My last hatch was pretty good in the janoel, maybe the fuzz butts got it messed up? Still futzing with the janoel.

I absolutely love that.

I appreciate what you are saying, what I see is more and more cancer everywhere. There are causes everywhere including "Roundup". My response is this; I believe it does belong in the same evil bucket as you call it.

Glyphosphate is actually injected into some of our seeds now, not just Bt corn.It's not just sprayed on our dandelions and crabgrass. It gets into the water supply from runoff. Miracle Gro is just as bad.

OK, I gotta back off now. I get waaaaay to passionate about this. I don't want to upset the thread and go to byc jail.

I really dont mean to set you off. I am trying to understand and also not argue for one side in this debate. The topic is scary. I am trying to get to the facts rather than the hype - both sides are passionate

I cannot find anything about injecting glyphosphate into seeds.

Glyphosphates break down in soil but if collected by run off, does polute surface water and dont break down well. This, on its own is a major concern

When I was a nursing student in 1984, an oncologist told our class that if we live long enough, we will die of cancer. It was something I have never forgotten.

The incidence of cancer is on the rise. Some is purely age related but there has more than 30 percent decline in the death rates for heart disease, stroke and overall cardiovascular diseases from 2000 to 2012. While still the leading cause of death, one would expect the cancer, the second leading cause of death would pick up many of these lives in its statistcs.

The WHO suggets that 40% of cancer deaths are preventable.

Key risk factors for cancer that can be avoided are:
  • tobacco use - responsible for 1.8 million cancer deaths per year (60% of these deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries);
  • being overweight, obese or physically inactive - together responsible for 274 000 cancer deaths per year;
  • harmful alcohol use - responsible for 351 000 cancer deaths per year;
  • sexually transmitted human papilloma virus (HPV) infection - responsible for 235 000 cancer deaths per year; and
  • occupational carcinogens - responsible for at least 152 000 cancer deaths per year.
Occupational carcinogens are responsible for 1 in 20 preventable cancer deaths. Removing carcinogens from the work place as well as providing protection are critical.

I am still trying to drill down on actual incidence of cancer caused by glycophosphate. The studies I have found are for non-hodgkins lymphoma (NHL) and report that ag workers that use glycophosphate is double that of regular joes (same studies that cause the initial report that started this discussion)

The incidence of NHL in the USA

Number of New Cases and Deaths per 100,000: The number of new cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma was 19.7 per 100,000 men and women per year. The number of deaths was 6.3 per 100,000 men and women per year. These rates are age-adjusted and based on 2007-2011 cases and deaths.
Lifetime Risk of Developing Cancer: Approximately 2.1 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma at some point during their lifetime, based on 2009-2011 data.
Prevalence of this cancer: In 2011, there were an estimated 530,919 people living with non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the United States
So based on the stats, 40 ag workers in 100000 will develop NHL per year and 12 will die from it. Half of those numbers are attributable to occupational exposure.
when compared to other cancers

As I dont want this to escalate, I will stop after this post. I congratulate the restraint of those who want to strangle me or scream, yell and upset BYC.
As far as consuming GMO foods, there is nothing to support health risks. The issue is whether an individual wants to boycott for envitonmental reasons which are potentially valid rather than direct health reasons which at this stage are emotional rather than factual.
Glyphosphate has a lot to answer for but data does not indicate its as evil as people suggest. In saying that, there is no way I would use it. Its not worth the risk.

** editited to correct to glyphosphate from glycophosphate

Um, forgive me for the correction, but the name of the chemical is Glyphosate (trade name for N-(phosphonomethyl)glycine), and the reason that you can't find anything about injecting it into seeds is because it would be completely pointless to do so. Glyphosate kills weeds by being absorbed through the leaves, getting translocated within the weed itself, and disrupting the process by which it grows. Trying to kill weeds by injecting Glyphosate into crop seeds would be roughly analgous to trying to treat cancer in one patient by giving chemotherapy to one across the hall . . . .

I have stayed out of this discussion, because I've seen way too much emotion and way too little actual information getting exchanged whenever the subject comes up. Back under my rock, now.

thank you for the correction on my typo. I will remove the "co" from my posts

I am aware it would have no benefit however it was posted that it occurs and would like the source of the information.

I leant how round up works because my cousins decided to test it our on a huhe hill behind our small city - they sprayed letters of it (think hollywood sign) to spell F*** You early one spring.

The scar could be seen for years

Years ago, my husband and I joked about spraying "pay me, you cheapskate" into the lawn of an industrial client that was chronically late (about 6 months at that point). We figured we'd have been fired, but it would have served as a warning to anyone else that was considering picking up the contract . . . .

Quote: But that's the problem. The original source is probably some tweet somewhere, or a comment by some talk-show host, and it got picked up and passed around by people who are passionate in their beliefs but who don't understand enough to realize the flaw in the argument.

It's a scary subject, and I admit to not knowing enough to be able to argue about it. As an emotional response, I'm happy we have restrictions for it in place here.

Then a subject changer. Here's a video from our skiing trip today. I'm in the front, my sister's boyfriend and Kiusa are behind me, and Karin who's filming is being pulled by Vaiva.

My cousin died of cancer at 38yrs old. Most healthy active, mountain biked daily, person I've ever met. The doctors said said it came from where he worked, kitchen cabinet factory, the glues and chemicals.
My grandmother died a couple yrs ago of pancreatic cancer. She thought cancer comes from microwaves and threw hers out. She said cancer is becoming worse because people use microwaves all the time now "and put food they eat in them!" I don't think that is true but I almost wanted to throw my microwave out. We definitely don't pop popcorn in it anymore. Heck it doesn't take only a few minutes to use a air popper and we have one of them wirly ones also.

I just read a story about how we find cancer's too easily, it suggested that a third of all 30-year old men have some sort of changes that would be classed as testicular cancer, but that mostly they are not harmful changes. It was written by a doctor, but didn't mention any credible research, so I'm a bit skeptic about it.

Then there is the other side of that whole coin....

I just had a relative of mine... man about 80 ish told there was something on his ex rays and that they should remove it because it could be the precursor to cancer.... They told him he would be coming home with a colostomy bag... When they got in they couldnt find ANYTHING abnormal. So since they were in there already they took out his healthy appendix...
th.gif

I jsut want to slap people up.... Dont docs do follow ups... Consultations with other Docs... even a "Hey look at this xray"

They said it was an anomoly... Probably something laying on the table under something that got exrayed in the process.
