The Old Folks Home

I'm not a fan of grits but I do like steel cut oats.

Spent the last few hours getting the coops ready for winter. I did a 100% change of litter in all the animal houses and even did the windows and screens in the chicken coop. The guineas did not like me coming into their guinea abode to give them a cleaning, and I'm surprised they all survived, the way they were trying to crush each other to get away from me and my Scary Dust Pan of Doom.

Perchie I promise, if I ever come across grits ice cream, I will forward it to you with expedited service- just to get it away from me.

It snowed here, but mine needs a good cleaning again. I know what you mean about the birds about killing themselves off while in there cleaning, not so bad when they can be out and about in the yard and can leave the run, but when they can't be out, they are scrambling like little scared chickens.

Ahhhh Waffle house

one of my staple restaurants! Don't know why, but I discovered years ago that if I wasn't feeling well or had a headache I couldn't kick (not a hangover - I don't get those), a Waffle House meal always made me right as rain by the time I finished eating. To this day, it's still one of my favorite places to pull in and eat. Simple straightforward good food. I especially look for them when driving long distance cross country. They're harder to find west of the mississippi...

Had to laugh at your comment about washing grit pots there though... My kids and I always joke that it's not a "proper" Waffle House unless they give you "dirty" cutlery. When my kids were young and we'd stop a one particular WH nearby, it seemed the silverware was ALWAYS dirty! We'd have to return it every time we went there.

There was a while there maybe 5-7 or so years ago when they kinda slid... They changed the oil they used and within an hour after eating there I'd have diarrhea... Then to save money they served pork chop slivers vice a normal thickness (which is still too thin). I complained and called them pork chips vice chops. They eventually realized their error and went back to the original thickness and raised the price a bit.
Oh my gosh you made me laugh so hard! I do know the deal on the silverware very well! I would get so mad at the girls that would not change out the dish machine so we could have clean silverware! I did it at the begining of each of my shifts and at the end. Some cooks are very bad! They will put extra low melt in your food if you complain about something and that will give you the diarrhea! I had gone out shopping with a friend once and stopped at WH and ate. By the time we got home we both had it! I was so mad, I called the store manager and told them what he did and got him fired that day! I never did anything to anyone's food. I believe in KARMA! I do like WH food even today! But I hate washing dishes to this day! hehehehehehe

Quote: Ron if I had to go through all that for some grit's I just forget them. heheehe I did buy some new non stick cookware and it makes the job a lot easier. :) I just don't make them that often I will make fried potatoes with onion and bell peppers for breakfast and luckily DH likes that just as much. :)
