I'm proud of my husband who served in the US Army and served in the ASA in Korea during Viet Nam.

My brother who served in the Army in Viet Nam.

And my Father who served in the Army prior to WWII.

I think the country would be in far better shape if it were a bit more like Israel who requires all able body youth to serve at least one year of service once they are out of high school.

There would be a lot fewer cry baby snowflakes around who have to have cry rooms on Campuses and more who appreciated their country and all the blessings we have here.

My brother wouldn't talk about Viet Nam until he saw the movie Platoon. My SIL said at the end he broke into tears and set up most of the night pouring out his heart to her about all that had happened to him there.

He was on at least one incursion that was a suicide mission...only he said they fooled them and came back without losing a man.

That was a horrible time and I hope no other generation ever needs to experience anything like it.

Whoops that's what I get for trying to do it from memory. I should know better after my chemotherapy stirred my head with a stick. It was Hearst not Morgan that clear cut the Baha. And it has been over twenty years and pre-chemotherapy since I read up on it. So I apologize for a late night blurt that really didn't contribute anything but confusion.

Chemotherapy is the mother-in-law of medicine. I hope your head is settling down and no longer whirling from being stirred.

Hearst also didn't like uppity Mexicans coming to the US. They were starting to join unions during the depression and that didn't cut it with him. No multi-millionaire wants to pay his servants a living wage or his laborers at his printing company, either.

Some of you need to take a trip to the third world and see what poor code enforcement and zoning can do to a city

Go to Portland, Oregon and see what strict zoning enforcement, rampant homelessness, and months of arson and vandalism can do to a city.

Detroit looked better than Portland, Seattle, San Jose, Los Angeles, and San Francisco the last time we went to the Ann Arbor area to visit my husband's family.

I use sea freight all the time actually. It takes 9 weeks door to door. A little longer than I can afford to take for myself.

"Just Saying" taking a jab at me for flying is a little personal. I am cognizant of the fossil fuel required to lift my lard *** off the ground and an thankful that the airline has switched to more fuel efficient aircraft.

The 9 weeks of consuming food and no productivity on a freighter is also a bit of an issue. If it was more efficient, millions of Canadian, European and Australasian twenty somethings would be on ships instead of planes as they travel the globe learning what poor urban planning looks like. They would gladly spend a few weeks at sea to save 50 bucks.

In the USA I live 0.4 miles from work. I fill my car every three weeks and try to plan a list of things to do all along the same route.

In the Philippines I have a car that's run by a 2 liter turbo diesel. I haul a trailer if I need more capacity.

All our lights are LED in both countries. We have 16 watts (4x4watts) burning overnight as security lights in the Philippines.

We run a 1/2 HP AC in our bedroom from 6pm to 4am. Its thermostat is set at 78F. I don't consider myself a "green" person. I don't do "the natural" bologne. I love the concept of GMO. I love efficiency. I abhorr waste.

Oh and additionally, my immigrant self, immigrant wife and soon to be immigrant kids don't fit in your ideology of how America should position itself, but the tax dollars I generate in offshore income is appreciated by your government. My immigrant babies will have an excellent life with all the rights and liberties afforded by any American (save being president). And they will be cared for by an immigrant nanny.

One more.... Child restrictions in China did not see dead kids hanging from trees but millions of female babies did die of sudden infant death syndrome until the parents were blessed with a boy.

In thirty years China will be importing care givers to look after its aging population. It's already importing wives for the sons.

Do you lecture your nursing patients with such a degree of projection as when you launch on me? I have no problem with legal, self-supporting immigrants who work real jobs. I have a major problem with the dope gangs who sneaked over the border to the SF Bay Area.

A former neighbor was attacked by a gangster mommy for "disrespecting" her elementary school son by reporting the fact that he was extorting his classmates to the principal and to his mother who was outraged that she was interfering in her child's entrepreneurship.

The former neighbor has been declared totally disabled, in large part that despite the fact that she wound up hospitalized for a rather long time, the principal thought that they could do "restorative justice" wherein she would apologize for failing to respect the family's strong Mexican (gang) culture. The school district refused to consider uniformed security because they wanted the students to be "comfortable." Apparently being made uncomfortable while committing extortion or beating a teacher unconscious with a chair is not allowed in that particular school district.

I have spent much of my life surrounded by Latin culture in the Yakima Valley, northern New Mexico, and now California. I find it deeply disturbing when my *legal* immigrant neighbors find themselves forced to take out second mortgages so they can send their kids to private school to protect them from extortion or gang recruitment. It is really sad.

I find it horrendous, insulting, and racist when poverty, ignorance, and criminality are considered to be traits of Latin culture. The main reason that illegal immigration has been encouraged and subsidized by our politicians seems to be to break the private sector unions, especially the service and construction industry unions. Another important reason is to provide extremely cheap labor to corporations - with the American people paying for welfare and other programs to prevent the families of that cheap labor from starving to death or sleeping on the street.

Even some public school teachers who should stop and think about what they are saying have told little kids whose one parent is a Black, Asian, or White American and whose other parents are Latin American - Mexican, Guatemalan, Venezuelan, or Cuban - that they need to "pick a side", preferably "La Raza." I thought that demanding that people choose The Superior Race went out with Hitler.

I also find the left wing indoctrination insensitive. People who have had to flee Cuba, Venezuela, and other "enlightened" regimes do not need to be told how wonderful Che and Fidel were, nor that Chavez is the greatest man in Venezuelan history. Of course, the professional ethnic activists also try to suggest that only White Cubans and Venezuelans have ever wanted to leave - because they are too ignorant to know that Che and Fidel prevented Black Cubans to board the freedom flights.

Che and Fidel wanted to keep all of the Black people in Cuba to do the labor that they considered beneath White people. Che was so uncomfortable with Black and mixed race Cubans that he imported White Communists from Argentina to be given positions of authority in the Castro government. The CRT and professional activists insist on ignoring the fact that the longest serving political prisoner in Cuba is a Black man, and that a disproportionate percentage of political prisoners are Black.

I disagree. All too often it equates to ignoring large mammals with trunks loitering in the sitting room and burying everything in manure. Ignoring elephants in living rooms, or the Oval Office, or the Kremlin, doesn't tend to turn out well.

Bessarabian Germans were generally a bunch of religious nuts who left Germany when the Kaiser ordered the Reformed and Lutheran churches to merge. Given the serious theological differences between the two groups, the pietist Lutherans and some of the Reformed did not accept this. Some Catholics also left.

The reason that stricter requirements were placed on the immigrants to the area Russia had recently wrested from Turkey was that a previous attempt to improve Russian agriculture and technology had been done, with those immigrants becoming known as the Volga Germans. Unfortunately, it seems many were not skilled in the trades or in managing large farms because a number of them were either extremely poor peasants or serfs. Consequently, the Imperial Family went looking for people who were successful farmers or tradesmen in Germany for this round of immigrants.

The Germans had made agriculture far more efficient through one simple basic change - when the horse collar was invented they realized that horses could plow faster and longer than oxen, although you might need more for the job as oxen were stronger. The increased feed for horses over cattle became irrelevant since faster plowing and reaping meant that it was possible to use land to grow feed for horses without causing a major reduction in food crops. With the horse and the horse collar, production increased, and new agricultural implements and cultivars were developed that made farming even more productive - farmers now could take the time to think about how to improve their farms with new ideas.

Russia, England, America, and most of the world still used oxen. The Pennsylvania Dutch revolutionized Anglo-American agriculture when they arrived with horses. George Washington and the other planters bred mules as a result of having seen some of the use of mules in Spain. Note that oxen were still used for plowing when mules were first developed in the US - only later did the mule pull a plow instead of wagons and mill beams.

My German ancestors came from the Palatines part of Germany.

It does not really count though since they hit upper NY in the early 1700s.

I do love potatoes though!

Mine were apparently from Prussia.
