Well,I have all different aged birds right now but in May I got four 3 week olds. One Barred Rock and 3 RIR. I have written before that I have a feeling the BR is a Roo. They should be about 8 weeks old now and the the BO is very big, very yellow legs with the black wash down the front and the comb is just a tiny bit bigger than the other three RIR which by the way are definately hens. The thing that really has me is the tail, it is getting long and curling down. This bird does not act aggressive or show any rooster tendacies at all at the moment. I am really stumped on this one and I thought I could really tell by now but can't!!!!
No pictures as I am not up the the literate age yet of getting that accomplised, soon though I hope. Can anyone think they can help me with what I have described with no picture? It is starting to drive me crazy!

Not necessarily. I had a BR pullet that had a long rooster-like tail till she was 12 weeks old, in addition to wide barring. she molted it out and got a proper tail for a little girl and we knew what she was then. This is her in the front at 8 weeks old-notice the tail?

Ohhhhhhhhh speckledhen, so you mean there is still a chance I have a girl???? lol If so she is going to be a huge one. I am having such a hard time and I really thought by now I would be able to tell. The only thing that looks rooster is the tail this is one big bird for about 8 weeks old. I think I will just call it IT for now because I am stumped on this one. All I can do now is sit back and wait for the crow I guess. I will keep you posted.

Well, I don't want to get your hopes up, but you could still have a girl. Is she more black or more silvery gray looking? Lighter ones are usually cockerels, except for my Lexie. She didn't read her breed manual, LOL.

sounds like you have a Barred Rock Roo

cuz........I JUST DISCOVERED I HAVE ONE TOO

I adopted 5 chicks and it seems I got 3 black sex links - one Rhode Island Red and........a maniac Roo

He's grey and white (sorta looks like spots) yellow legs - his comb is a bit bigger than the girls and he has those red little flappy things under his chin (I can't remember what they are called!)

When I feed them blueberries for treats he runs and grabs them ALL like a greedy dog -- he'll grab one - I'll fling another...he'll drop the one in his beak and run for the next ----he'd do that all day.....

He runs at my Leghorn (very sweet calm white Roo) and jumps into the air - grabs ahold of his grand tail feathers and swings by him in the air ---- you'd swear he drinks caffeine

He's a nut but I love him...

I haven't laughed that hard in a long time...hopefully yours will have the same personality

IT seems to be more black than silvery grey and does not have any wattles yet with a very small comb like the girls I am starting to wonder if it is a transexual BR!!! But it sure looks like a rooster tail to me! IT looks alot like the picture of yours speckledhen but the tail seems to be even a little longer.

And Kerri that is to funny....lol This one is very calm and shows no inkling yet of any rooster traits at all, that is why I am dying for it to crow or get off the pot already! This is a tough call on this one.

Hi and thanks for the picture. It looks a little more like speckledhens and I noticed today the comb is looking a little more darker. The legs are very yellow and long with a tiny splash of black on the front. Personally I think it is going to be a rooster! This one is a hard call for sure.
