Someone had mentioned the pea pens they saw in some photos I have submitted here of my new peafowl. We are tearing down these pea pens and using the material here on my farm to build new pens so I can get them moved over. The man that owned these just kept adding pens together and then had to tear down some of his old ones because he had had them so long and they were no longer safe.

This is the front facing south. Notice the huge honeysuckle vine on the corner of the structure. That is going to give us fits! But that also shows a point of reference. The pens are all about 10 or 12 ft wide and each compartment is about 20 ft long but they are side by side and end to end so right now the 2 remaining pairs of peas have a very long pen since we opened the doors to the front and back pens.

This is the northwest side. Notice the honeysuckle vine.

Those are blackberry vines on the left side of the photo above that cover the north side of the pens and over the top.

There are pens on the north side and south side but all are covered in the middle with roofing, OSB and some black rubber stuff. The location is good because a small mountain blocks much of their wind. Not so here on my place.

There is some good construction here. Too bad I am not as handy with building and the man that has given me the peas does not want to help build more pens. Can't blame him. I hope to only do this once, myself! I am just glad most all the material is still useable.

Notice in the photo above the corner of the pen with the honeysuckle on it. Good point of reference.

And there are 3 pair and one single in this coop/barn/shed building. Not sure if we are going to tear this down or not though it has a great metal roof I would love to have. Steve put sliding doors between the 10x10 pens but I am so short legged I have a hard time getting over them into each pen to feed each time.

And the inside of each one looks like this. Only with different birds in each one.

Now I am hoping to make the birds happy by building them new pens here and moving them over. I hated it has taken me so long but the weather has been horrid and I am working a lot by myself. So far I have 2 pens almost complete, thanks to some of my friends coming to help when they can. These 2 side by side pens are 10x30 each. Just have to wire the top and put the roof on the sheds. And roosts, of course. Not nearly as well constructed as their old pens due to my lack of judgement and experience.

As soon as I get the 2 pairs moved from what we are tearing down I will start on another area of pens but those will be 16x16 for each pair of birds and their sheds will only be 8x8 each. So much work ahead of me! Ugh! I am too old for this......
