I have two Peafowl who are approaching 3 months old. Just moved them outside to a pen (10-14 days ago perhaps). Been going well, been letting them out periodically and supervising them. Just bumming around in the garden, bit too skittish to explore. Been out during the day for last 3 days, no issues, but the bold one seems to have got his confidence back now because I found him on the roof staring through the window at me earlier today. So he's explored his way out of the garden he seemed quite happy in. That happened quicker than I was expecting given their previous behaviour.

So now they're happy sitting on fences and rooves the Im really concerned the next step is cars.

Having read the thread on peafowl car damage, is clipping their nails, or indeed their wings a viable option?

We trim talons on the very young to keep them from damaging each other. We will have many chicks in the brooders and when they are excited at feeding time or when getting treats they will jump on each others backs, they also do this while jockeying for their special roost space in the evening. The tiny talons when they hatch are razor sharp so we trim all the talons when we do our DNA testing. We also carry a pair of trimmers to use when we see an older bird whose talons and or beak need attention. As far as trying to reduce damage to vehicles I guess it couldn't hurt but there is no way I would ever suggest clipping a wing on a free ranging pea, they need to be able to escape predators and a clipped wing is just making them an easy meal.
