for last 3 weeks exploded and contained nothing but, as you could guess, smelly goo. Didn't discover until dark this evening and will clean their kennel out in morning. My arm is a bloody/welted mess from me trying to make sure there was no egg left(I'm none too swift!) and I didn't even notice she was attacking me so fierce. I hope she can "unbrood" soon as this has been a noisy month with her defending her area.

Oh no, what a shame. Sounds like she is a very determined mother. They really can bite when they are in the broody way!

Next time she goes broody are you going to let her sit again?

Sorry-went to bed after vicious attack(am joking) but just let the ducks out of their pen and the plan is NO to letting her set again. They were intended as pets and I have too many chickens currently but this duck was determined and disappeared one night(found her later that night in a brush pile) and given the predator population I can't let her set without a TON of effort. Shes out there now making a lot of noise and I am hoping she will just phase out her broody behaviour.

Oh my I have an arm that looks simularLOL. I'm sorry the egg blew up, I was hoping you'd get a lil duckling. Listen she'll get over it, I have been working with 4 ducks who have been trying for weeks to go broody again and I think we finally succeeded in getting them over it. Sigh, So just give her time. These girls can be persistant but We can be too.

Morning-And , yes, I was a little disappointed but certainly didn't NEED any more ducks. Don't think egg was developed at all but for all I know she ATE solid matter. In the initial stage tey were eating some of the eggs and this was the only one left. The broody duck in question, princess(original-i know), is at least staying out of the nest area all morning(it smells nasty) and have to go break down their pen for cleaning. If 4 broody ducks are like 4x the noise princess makes I feel for you.
