The Outstanding Orpington Contest!! -End date TBA

Hi amunk01, Thank you for asking.. it is always a challenge by looking at a photo to get a great example of your Spangle/Mottle but to get a over view of your beautiful Spangle it appears you have a quality offspring to use further breeding. In using a cockerel size is important and one must always use a mostly all black with very little specks of white, less white is more desirable in a breeding rooster, as the hens carry the white. In your next generation try using a roo with mostly black in appearance. Crossing two offspring's that carry to much white will result in chicks that are more "Mottle" in color (too much white) it does appear you are off to a good start. Your hen is very pretty with a lovely head. I personally raise several roosters in the same flock and let them mature until they are 8-10 month of age to determine the best breeding rooster. Of course this demands many pens to keep the roo's safe from each other. And at this time only pick young hens with less speckling (less white is better) breeding the Spangle/mottle take a great deal of time but is well worth it in the end. best to you and I look forward to seeing the results to your breeding program.
