Please please please tell me they are all girls - I was assured they were when I bought them. But I was also assured that one was an ameraucana, and that only one was a Black Copper Maran, despite my thinking that they looked too much alike, and now the other one has feathers coming on its legs and feet so ... thinking I have two - not a problem, as they are lovely birds ... but now questioning gender ... the two buffs came from a different source.

Might be a little early to tell sexes for sure, but I agree that there is no sign of cockerels yet.

Your "Ameraucana" looks to be an Easter Egger (the last bird pictured) - many people sell EEs as Ameraucanas or Americanas unfortunately (even hatcheries). EEs can either be mixed breed of Ameraucana and something else, often used to increase laying abilities, or they can be Ameraucanas that don't meet the standards of perfection for the breed. An example of this would be crossing a Wheaten coloured Ameraucana with a Blue Ameraucana as the colours wouldn't breed true or meet a standard. Easter Eggers are really beautiful birds and super pretty - I'm pretty sure you have a lovely pullet :)

You also appear to have a Black Copper Marans (black one with white spot on chest and feathered legs), so you will get some egg colour variation provided they are both pullets!

Agreed. Gypsy is definitely an EE, not Ameraucana, as sold. I actually have 2 Black Copper Marans (Violet was supposed to be a RI Blue), so it should be an interesting egg basket for sure, color-wise.

Well folks, Gypsy, Violet and Belle are 11 weeks old, my two buff orps, Marigold and Blossom, are 12 weeks old. I was told Violet was a RIBlue. She isn't. I thought she might be another Black Copper Maran, but she has no copper on her feathers. She's all black, looks a lot like Belle the BCM, except less feathering on her legs, and no copper feathers, nada. But, she sat on my lap today and ate her breakfast from my hand while I patted her... Her feathers are luxurious and have a beautiful blue sheen - I'm starting to think she's an Australorp... I will get a photo and post, but this is her baby photo (my avatar) ... her temperment - she's the most shy girl in the flock, but she also loves to be cuddled once she's comfortable. She's almost the size of the buffs, and she's pretty mellow. Thoughts?
