The "Peach" Peafowl bandwagon?

Thank you Silverfox, i love her color.
The peacock is only 8 months old.

ahh i see not grown fully

i would love to have peafowl but, you might think this is odd as i love chicken and keep them but i have a stinking fear of birds

especially large ones with large wingspans

although peacocks fan is not its wings its the same principle for me and it freaks me out

Well sometimes the best way to overcome fear is to face it and ya could raise some up and learn about them and mabe your fears will subside, just sayin.
They are really cool birds, i have learned alot about them in the last 2 years.

i did try to face my fears once and think i made it worse hehe

i went to BirdWorld UK with my nephew as a responsable adult with his school

well you can only imagine what happened

I also love coi carp fish but again wont keep them as i would freak out if the local storks came to visit

even to the point that if i had a dummy one in the garden and went out at night and didnt realise from its shadow it was a dummy i would freak out

i may try peahens if i can get a few defo girls i reckon i can handle that

peach are lighter thyan cameo, spalding peach are darker ,still not the brown of the cameo

myself i only raised peach and purple.......no cameo....but easy to tell apart...cameo brown.peach orange brown

zazouse,,, I dont think you can take two different colors and create a cameo or peach.. the cameo was developed over time from a bird in Arizona called a silver dunn,, there were a number of people working on this, one was a friend of mine and gave me an artical from a science digest on his work with cameo genetics. And there were others credited with getting them to the point that they are now.. I think on Leggs web site it tells of the sorce of the purples and peach,, I raise peach and have some nice peach 75% spalding females. I have a 75% spalding split to peach male breeding back to the females. There are a number of breeders of peach from peach splits around, some are sold with and without the knowledge of the sellers. Doug McNutt raises peach spaldings each year as well and some others. I recognize the story about a person driving a long way and only to find out they were cameos. It is not unusual for a mating to get both peach and cameo from the same male or at least I have.. and do recognize them with the help of knowing who the parents are. A photo of one of my females is on the UPA web site of colors..... connerhills

Which still leaves me to think,,Cameo's and Peach are possibly the same,,except for variance or degree of color.I have seen so-called peach Ornamental pheasants that look very faded, nowhere looking any shade near "peach",,yet are not close to being Yellow colored either.I've spent hours on the phone with Sid in Texas,,missed talking with Doug but still plan on making another call,,my big no-no here is to get Peach birds, and then be told by someone more knowledgable than me that I indeed have Cameo's,,,so I'm going to the ones who knows the diffrence, and who's name carries weight when it comes to Peach birds.

I'm new somewhat to Peas,,but when people who have been breeding these birds for years cannot tell the diffrence between two colors,,how can I be expected to?? To just say you have peach because they aren't the same shade as your Cameo's is a poor excuse if indeed they are not Peach,,and by mixing other pieds-b/s,spaldings,ect with Peach, this deviates from the standard color,,Deerman says peach is more "Orange brown",,,and everyone has diffrent opinions of what both colors are,,,

I think after you see a few of them you will know the color,, Your not going to get peach just by breeding Cameo in my opinion, if enough crosseing is done one might show up .. the way to know will take some time, both are sex linked and a male peach breed to a cameo hen will make birds split to both colors then you just have to breed to see what is going to turn out. I would not get a cameo on the hopes of getting a peach hen, work with the male side not the female. and keep good records. connerhills

Sad there are breeders(mostly new ones) that can not tell the differents in some of the colors, like peach/cameo and bronze /blue(hens) opal/charcoal.....myself i think they are easy. Like George said if you see them next to each other.

spalding birds are darker in most colors.

peacocks after they get 2 yr old most people should e able to tell the colors, peahens and chicks are harder to tell

cameo and bronze hens don't have the green neck feather(unless high % spading)
