This is the modification I was talking about. The not letting them on top to poop sounds good too, though.

Oh the possibilities!
I don't think this would work for larger flocks though.
We have over 30, and no way am I going to build 15-30 of those things.
THe way chickens are, if one is eating, they all must be eating

This is the two chicken wide version. The lid closes slowly so no one gets hurt.

They are called chooketerias in New Zealand.
My bantams use it with no problems. These photos are from Ron who sells them.
