The perfect hen nest. Cheap!!

Walmart. They were $6.97 each. The nice thing is they are stackable, so I can stack them and take up less room! I think they had a bigger one too, but I went with the small ones.

Hey Tabitha, are your girls using the wallyworld nest boxes? Mine are already accustomed to their traditional style one & was thinking of buying a couple but unsure how to "re-train" the gals!

Looks awesome. If I expand my coop this summer I'll have to make a cross border jaunt to find some since I can't seem to find them on-line here in Canada. Luckily I live literally 5min from the border!

No! My chickens have thus far turned their beaks up at the boxes! I was so excited about these, and the girls have decided the old covered cat litter box is a much better place to lay eggs. All four that I have laying are laying in the litter box. i will occasionally find an egg in the nest boxes inside the coop, but have yet to find one in the walmart boxes. i plan on getting some fake eggs soon to put in there to try and encourage them to use the boxes.

Darn, I guess they're creatures of habit. I wonder if you didn't "allow" them access if they'd move to the new nest. Or what if you moved all the bedding from the old to the new?

Can you remove the old nest box and place a few golf balls in the new ones? Would it also be wise to drill a few holes in the sides @ the bottom and top for a lil ventilation? Seems the plastic wouldn't breath, and from walmart, they're probably from china, there could be some toxic offgassing. Just a thought.

$10 stackable bins from Lowe's. Cheap to buy, easy to clean, perfect amount of space! I've been using mine for 2 years and they still look great! For the top bins, under the wood shavings, is a 12" cement paver to weight it so that when the hens jump to the top, the whole thing doesn't topple over.
