i love Loretta and this song but i didn't catch all the chicken references until i started raising chickens.
it's hard to imagine this song was banned from radio with all the "stuff" out there now.
thought you guys might like it.

The Pill....did you know that that was her first song released
after the breakup of her and Conway Twitty?

The very first "album" (read cassette) that I bought as a kid was Loretta Lynn.

Imp- I might still have it buried somewhere.

I remember when that song came out - I was not a Country music fan at the time, so it took a while before I became aware of it. And by then, I had been on "the pill" for some time.

Seeing the lyrics again surprised me - no, none of that chicken stuff meant all that much back then (got my first chickens in October 2009) but I sure got the gist of the song!

6 years ago, I heard Loretta Lynn with Jack White of the White Stripes sing a song on radio about Sloe Gin Fizz. I loved it, bought the CD Van Lear Rose and became an instant Loretta Lynn fan. I am not a huge fan of Pop-country, but like blue grass, folk music, and Johnny Cash (got free tickets to a concert once and went near the end of his touring career and also became a fan). Anyway, I think Loretta Lynn is awesome, I have never heard The Pill, but doesn't surprise me hearing lyrics of the songs on Van Lear Rose disc.
