We are just getting started on our little chicken journey and I hope for the best. Here are some photos or the coop we built this week in our back yard. We call it the Pine Tree Inn because it sits between two large pine trees and it was built right there. Lots of tree branches in the head while drilling and hammering. While it's not going to win any records for largest coop, we are proud to say that so far we only have spent $94 because we recycled lumber from our kids sandbox, from pallets and also from a new home being built across the street, they let us pick up scraps.

It's not 100% finished but it's close. We put in a sliding front door and also the side door on the right of this photo slides off easily for cleaning. The side on the left of this photo has the access to nest boxes.

Need to add a window. Roof is raised about 1/8 inch, just enough to allow air flow.

This was fun cutting, but not sure how that will work. We'll see.

The coop is 6x3=18 Sq Ft on the Floor, not too big.

The is a view from behind the coop.

Added some hardware.

This is subfloor made from sandbox.

We have our first chick in this brooder box in our basement right now. Hope to successfully move them to coop in a month or two.

Here you see some of the scraps we found at the building site that we used for the nest boxes. I think those pieces are some new kind of floor joists. We found several of these odd pieces at the site and placed them in the nest spot. Not really sure if the size is going to be right for our chicks. But we can change them out if needed.

Well that's all for now. Let me know your thoughts.
