Splash Orpington x black Australorp will not give you blue lorps. It will give you a blue crossbreed. Splash Orpington x black australorp would be a good start however.
If you want blue australorps FIRSTLY cross a splash Orpington with a Black Australorp. THEN cross the male offspring back to black australorp hens. THEN select the blue males from this cross and breed back to the black australorp hens. Repeat this step for another couple generations. Once you do this you can cross all your offspring together both blue and black and then magic happens. You have your own pure line of black blue and splash australorps. It is a long process but they are worth it. Fortunately for me half of my breeding flock is from the original line of blue australorps in Western Australia. The same wonderful breeder has been breeding the same line for 20 years now. She has done the variety in Australia proud and I am lucky I could source some fertile eggs from her because we live about 20 minutes away from each other.
