Here is the start of our coop. I put it on stilts today and I made it a little too high and have to build a deck around it to get to the nesting boxes. I also plan on making the run this week if weather permits.

I'm trying to find a poop tray with no luck.

We have 15 chicks, which I know is too many for our coop, the neighbors have a farm and have been helping us a lot. We'll end up giving them some. I'll try to update throughout the week.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice.

We had a tragedy Thursday. My dog got a hold of the chicks and killed 13 of 15.

There is a livestock auction about 30 minutes north so we went and got some more and did a lot of work on our coop and run.

We still need to wire in about 50% of it but after working until midnight I have to call it a night.

To me he looks like a game rooster. The hens certainly look like games. What part of Indiana is he from.
The auction was just north of Indy. Noblesville. So I'm guessing around there. He seems pretty good with the flock besides the initial pecking to show he's the boss. No aggression towards anything. I'm worried about our 3 week old rooster that survived the dog attack when he finally joins the flock.

The younger rooster will in all likelihood be fine. I routinely keep a free-ranging game rooster with flocks of non-game juveniles. Game rooster gets juveniles to go to better / higher roost and provides a degree of predator protection from hawks. Only problem to be concerned with is about the time the young molts into adult feathers. Sometimes he may challenge authority of game rooster but usually once the younger guy backs down all is well. On a few occasions and this is far from rule, the game rooster will run the young one to death but that is not typical.
