The Red Pepper Experiment!

I found this 'recipe' to kill rats and let me tell you it works like a charm. I wish I had found it years ago.

1 part peanut butter
1 part plaster of Paris
Add olive oil till very thick paste is formed. Do not use water.

Roll mixture into small balls and distribute them where rats can find them but other animals can't. I throw them under the chicken coop. For a little insurance I put out bowls of water. The rats need a drink in order for this to work. The rats can't digest what they've eaten and die. Works the first time!

You can get plaster of Paris at any craft store.

I posted a patch to your thread in post 11. I thought this was a great idea. For the ones not eaten they would just draw moister after a while & become little marbles instead of dumping more chemicals in the soil.

I think I may have had a stroke of genius. I suggested someone put a chicken safe pepper into their chicken feed to deter a ravenous sheep.

Well, I got to thinking. Could I add red pepper to my chicken feed to deter rats and mice?

If rats get red pepper on them, it causes their eyes and nose to run as well as a stinging sensation, or so the website said. BUT, if I remember correctly, chickens are unaffected by the negative affects of pepper, right?

So, it makes me wonder, if I were to lace the chicken feed with red pepper powder; if it would make it inpalatable to the chickens?

I have rat poison out now, but if I can make the chicken feed inpalateable, I could possibly prevent a future reinfestation. The only time rats and mice have access to the feed, is in the chicken run and coop when I feed it to the chickens.

Once I make sure that the red pepper is safe for the chickens, I am going to try this out.

What happened to you adding the red pepper to your feed?
