I have a riddle if anyone wants to hear it

A man buys a house from another man. The man who sold the house says "Whatever you do, do not turn off this light switch." The buyer agrees and then heads out for the day. He returns that evening and is drunk. He turns off "the" light switch, not thinking. The following morning he goes out on his lawn and sees broken pieces of wood and dead bodies. Why?
