The right tool for the job

I love building! I went into building my greenhouse with literally, a handsaw and a hammer. Since that time I've gotten a table saw, circular saw, jigsaw, miter boxes, squares, levels, angles, (the plumb bob set got stolen gr) more screwdrivers and wrenches than I can count, an air compressor, electric stapler, stud finders and oh well I could go on. I'm the envy of most guys in the neighborhood. "Hey Sorcy .. could I borrow ..." is a regular occurance LOL!

Without the circular saw, I'd STILL be trying to finish up the 4x4's for the coop! Without the levelers and the angles I'd be wondering how I messed up the piers FOR the 2x4's, and without my electric drill/screwdriver set I'd be hand cranking those babies in... : shudder :

I agree, the right tool for the job makes all the difference!!

A few years ago, my husband was building a cabinet. He used a yellow yardstick from walmart. After a while, things weren't going exactly right and he couldn't figure out what the problem was. But he did finally get the cabinet together (not exactly square, if you know what I mean.)

Months later, he found out that his yardstick was only accurate for the first five or six inches. The farther you got from the first inch, the more "off" the yardstick was. I don't even think it was a yard long! It was like they cut a bunch of them and realized they were the wrong size, so they just spread the numbers out to make it LOOK like it was a yard.

And laser level to make sure that the floor is level. That was my excuse to get one. My DH does not worry if I go clothes shopping. But if I say anything about going anywhere near a hardware store. He runs and hide my bank card. We now have a Harbor Freight store not far from us. I am not allowed to go. O K I am bad I have already been there twice. I even managed to drag him there once. Spotted a great air Nibbler(used to cut sheets of tin.Shhhh.. it is next on my list. Wonder where i can hide it for a while. Then say that old thing I have had that for a while

Gosh does he need to borrow my measuring tape only have four or five. Use certain ones for certain job. Even have one that measures 300'.

Well, he got the thing to use as a straight edge (which I guess it might have been suitable for) then found himself using the numbers on it because they were THERE.

LOL you should have heard him cursing when he discovered this ... abomination of measurement. He bent it and threw it away.

Sure makes things go together easier, though!

I'm pretty frugal, but I've found almost every project I've done I'll buy a tool specificly for the major portion of the work and it ALWAYS well worth it in terms of time savings. Funny thing though, I have not bought a tool for the coop I'm building now... hmmmm... I could have really used a table saw... but have no room to store it, so this is what I used:

I wish I had a picture of it clamped to the table with the trigger taped on
