Okay, I today made something like 4 gallons of the homemade laundry detergent that you all recommend. I remember back aways that Bee said she didn't use it to wash certain things or colors--I can't remember it or find it on this thread. Does anyone know which post this is on? By the way my husband walked into my kitchen tonight where my fermented feed bucket and laundry soap bucket are, and said our house smells like a brewery in a laundromat.
I believe Bee said she didn't use the laundry soap on her whites because it made them dingy , I maybe wrong but she then said her washes her whites in water and vinegar. I use a vinegar rinse in my laundry so maybe my whites won't get dingy. And my hall way smells like a brewery and a Laundromat

It tended to make my whites a little dingy, is all. I don't have that problem now...I stopped buying white things. Easy fix.

Saves me money both times! And, yes, I've tried adding the distilled vinegar in the rinse to see if it helps...have ya ever known me NOT to reach for vinegar first?

My FF has no radiating smell at all...can't even tell it's in the house. Do you all keep a lid on it? I have a lid but it isn't fastened down all the way and air flow is good. No smell though, unless I'm standing over the bucket and stirring it up.

I'm not sure who decreed that whites need to be blindingly, fluorescently white . . . maybe the detergent companies? ;-)

Mine doesn't smell unless I am dishing it out and it smells very yeasty. I was joshing. mine did smell like a liquor store but i fixed that problem. I don't have many whites either Bee so I may never know if the vinegar helps. I also use vinegar and baking soda to clean toilets and scrub bath tubs. Bee did you see the pics of my Better butter?

I did! Looks much like mine did before I stirred in the rest of a pound of sulfur powder...then it got more yellow like the original NS. But not much...just that pale, store bought egg yolk yellow.

Doesn't it feel good to have a ton of NS on hand and knowing you will never use all that in your lifetime unless you run an ostrich farm and they all get scale mites? I find myself wasting it just because I can! I put some on the Bat's scaly winter dry feet last night to see if it will cure her "scale mites"...we both got a chuckle over that one.

Yes I have a lid on my FF placed loosely. It doesn't smell bad at all, just yeasty, kind of like when my mom and her friend made a batch of "home brew" in the attic about 50 years ago.

well let me know if it works on her scales. and yes I love that I have so much and I am using it on myself as well. I bought 4 lbs. and used close to 3 on what I made, it has kind of a light green color to it but I only used 1 Tab .of pine tar. since I used so much sulphur maybe I need to dig it out again and add more pine tar to it. what do you think? The whole time iIwas pouring the sulphur I thought I had a 1lb bag it wasn't till the next morning when I started working on it again that I looked at the bag and it said 4lbs. good grief. No wonder it looked like cement. Honestly do you think I need to add more pine tar.
PS i think I'll pass on the Ostrich farm

For the amount you made, wouldn't hurt to slap another tablespoon of pine in there.

I'm gonna put more on her scales tonight...as old as she is she has probably had scale mites for YEARS. Need to be aggressive with those darn things.

In the old days people used bluing to make whites white. Another product that I thought I might try is Rain Drops claims to make brighter and whiter clothes, and removes spots and residue.
