But as silly as it sounds, it was SO very relaxing just laying in the sun, half under a tree and surrounded by a flock of content cooks.

I so love laying out with the flock and the dogs...some of our best thinking is when we are communing with each other under a sunny sky.

Melabella, I sure missed it in your original post, and the way you explain it above makes me laugh. I think with all the religious quotes and references on this thread, that I took the reference in that context. (And Bee, please don't take that personally, I really don't care whatever god you identify with as that is your business, not mine, and since we are in the USA, that means, we both get to believe whatever it is we believe and hopefully will respect each other even if we don't share the same belief) And as I said, I should have been able to let it roll off my back.

You didn't do anything wrong, Melabella. It's just chickens. Anyone can make a big to do about anything we say on here if they want....but it has no real substance and it's just a distraction. Pay it no more mind.

Actually, I don't think I made a big deal out of it, I tried in a very gentle way to say it was hard to hear that. I also said I should be able to let it roll off my back. Now, normally when someone says something I said bothered them, assuming I meant no harm, I just say so - just as Melabella did above. Then it is all done with. No need to get all defensive. And I certainly apologize that I misread Bee's post with all the quotes in it and thought it was something Bee said.

I am truly sorry Bee that my post, saying it was hard to hear that, upset you so badly that you threatened to close down the whole thread, and I am also really sorry that you are counting strikes, and that made one out of of, I don't know, three strikes? And truly, I feel badly enough already that you don't need to rub my face it in with your post above. I didn't say to you that you were making a big fuss about zombies, and that your concern had no real substance and it was just a distraction - because I thought when you posted about Zombies that it was a real concern to you, and because of that, it was important.

Anyway, back to chickens.

How's the weather there? Couldn't do it here today. So cold! I couldn't even close my barn door yesterday it was frozen open. I broke out the chisel and had to remove a ton of debris in the sliding part of the door. Was not easy. I was ready to take a nap after lol.

I'm going through my photos now looking for a certain image (haven't found it yet) I did come across this one though, and love it. Not sure what breed this girl is, but she was slim, agile and one of the best free rangers I've had. Gave her to a friend because she was having a terrible time waiting on her first eggs. This girl was laying. Thought she'd like her :)

Aoxa - I SOOOOooooooooo love your photographs!!!!! With the bird suspended in time, and not running around, I can actually see them in detail and go back for a second look.
It really is helpful in a lot of ways. Not to mention, they are fantastic little works of art and just pleasing to see.

My son and I were talking about the possibility of major electric outages in the future and how our neighbors would survive. We were listing all the things we had in place... He was concerned that fuel would be an issue - no way to get around in the trucks. A little later in the conversation he mentioned our three horses. I said "Yup, we could eat them if need be." He looked mortified and said "I was thinking about hitching them to a wagon!" LOL But yes, I would definitely eat my horses, dogs, chickens, men... if need be. (Last year for Christmas I gave my husband a book on butchering everything from a squirrel to a moose... I catch him reading it all the time!)

We've been debating that over on the OT lately. Nicki is doing meaties for the first time this spring and she lives up in God's country in my state, so I offered to motor up and give a tutorial on processing. That is kind of snowballin' and folks are wanting to join the party and she is liking the concept. Could be we'll have a processing class if this keeps up!

She was all excited and told folks she works with that the BEE was coming to help her butcher chickens. I told her that I'm sure they were all impressed by someone whose only distinction is that she is real good at ripping the guts out of chickens.

She is going to do FF with them also. I'm hoping she gets herself an electric poultry fence instead of trying to tractor them...tractoring is not free ranging nor is it pastured poultry, IMO..it's just meaties standing on poopy grass all day until they get moved to more grass~ on which they poop some more.

LOL - who knows? Maybe you could do a processing tutorial down here, too. If we get some CX, they would be free ranged from the minute they were old enough.

And I just realized there was a typo in my post. Just to clarify for everyone, I find it relaxing to lay around in the sun with content CHOOKS... not Cooks - LOL. Though Delisha would be welcome to come lay in my yard any time at all.

This is sooooo funny!

You are like me....food is food is food. When it all comes down to a world where food and water will be currency,, folks will be looking at their pets in a whole new light, I imagine. And having to guard that food supply from others who finally see that light also.

That would be cool....VA is a pretty state and not too far, I'm thinking. If I have the gas, I'd toot on down there..if not, I can sure give you some pointers.
There you go I was going to say the same, both of my adult children and Gran children.

That's the biggest worry of all...our extended family and where their hearts and minds are, in regards to their soul.
