Do roos normally do this? I placed brand new hay in the "unused and sadly neglected" nest box, that my hens ignore. Everyone competes for sitting time in just one nest box. Well the roo came in jumped in the nest box and proceeded to make a nice nest, scratching and circling and acting broody. The hens all gathered round, clucked and encouraged him, preened him when he was done. Then the sassy ladies laid eggs in the nest! Go Figure! Is this normal?

Yep, thats normal, if my roo could fit into the nesting house he would circle and show the hens a good place to lay. Instead he does this in the middle of the straw bales and they poo all over their fresh straw and I have to carry it to their cages pre soiled.
