the rooster mating dance

will a rooster do his mating side dance to a pullett thats not quite old enouph to lay ?? and if so does that also mean that hes mating with the pullett??

Yes a roo will"mate" with a younger hen.

And yes he more than likely is mating with them.

Most pullets who aren't quite ready to lay will not squat willingly for the rooster. I do find that my main flock rooster wont pay any attention to the younger pullets till they are right at the point of lay. When I see him courting them, I know to start looking for eggs. However, I have seen mock-mating in 8 week old cockerels. Naturally, the pullets scream and struggle, LOL.

Will a roo ever dance around another roo? I have a young chickens that I can't tell yet if it's a hen or roo, but our OEG roo dances around it from time to time. I really thought it was roo until we saw that!
