the sex of hatchlings

I find the numbers are higher in the female sex. Not because the ratio at the hatch is any different. The males are more subject to predators if allow to free fly.

really, well actually i guess i have lost only males to preds come to think of it.. but sexing at birth can be done by looking at thickness, length, and density of fluff when chicks are very young. first egg laid usually male and can be marked to track, and usually you get one male and one female, but envirionmental conditions can effect that, as had cold winter were had all of one pairs babies turn out female for some reason that season, all healthy huge and robust, but just all hens, though they had had the worst coldest flimsiest nest ive seen and i had to put it in a plastic container with paper stacked up on bottom, as otherwise she would throw everything out or move eggs. male had produced two cocks in some pairs, that past summer to fall before, with differant hen.
