i cant believe we are such big dumb dopes...

so our stupid guineas - a total of 5 with 2 older and 3 younger - have been screeching nonstop for months. all. nite. long. they arent being murdered by wolves, nothing is in their coop.. no reason just constant screaming. we couldnt figure out what was going on and we were pretty sure someone, maybe us, would march out there one nite in a fit of sleepless rage and put an end to it. you know, roasted guinea for all our friends?

we did everything we could to drown out the noise, short of install a commercial airplane engine in our house.

so we couldnt take it one more second.

and it finally dawned on us.

we separated the two older, presumably males, and put Bob in one coop with one young female....and put Roy around the corner of the house in another coop with the other females.....

and finally. silence. quiet as church mice.

we cant believe we didnt figure it out sooner. shouldnt this be written down somewhere under Guinea Rule Number One? separate males for breeding season??

we are just glad we got some sleep. whew!

They are such strange little birds!

we separated them again tonite.... i can hear the bats flying its so quiet out there.... oh why didnt we do this before!??!!

I've got an excess of males. May be time to cull again. My m to f ratio is 2:1 at least. Not noisy at night, though. Maybe it's their age (5 months this month). Have noticed a little chasing, but nothing excessive. Wasn't planning of keeping them for breeding because they are French and I am unsure of their breeding abilities. I am willing to wait and see. I was planning to process the remainder and reorder jumbos for breeding stock. Any suggestions or anyone with breeding experience with advice?
