We have one main Roo that previously fought with our other Rooster that we tried to keep...so we had to find him a new home with his own ladies. Sugar our main Rooster appeared to want to be the one and only! So we had a hen go broody this winter and she had 2 females and 1 in question, looked like a rooster but never crowed and showed no signs of being male...so we figured we had a hen w big waddles and comb. Until the past few days I noticed he was picking up food making a clucking sound and dropping it for the ladies and then the dead give away was him tag teaming one of the hens. Bingo secrets out Mocha! So apparently he must be less dominant to get along with Sugar; BUT why doesn't he crow??? I am happy he doesn't crow however lol

He's keeping a low profile so Sugar doesn't beat him up would be my guess. I had a similar experience with my flock years ago. I had a lovely roo and a few hens. We let them raise 4 chicks, 2 of which were hens and 2 we were pretty sure were roosters, but they didn't crow, didn't mate with the hens, did not display roo behaviour at all. Then one day someone spotted my dominant roo and talked us into selling him. The moment he was out of the pen 2 young ones went crazy. To a point where we decided to sell them as well. With the dominant roo out of the way they could (and did) be roosters, but unfortunately they did it too enthusiastically

Too funny, well as long as he keeps acting like a hen he can stay. I am glad they get along..just thought it was so odd. I talk to my chickens and I keep saying to him..your a rooster aren't you and I swear he looks at me like shhh don't let the secret out. Hahaha love these fluffy butts!
