It seems that the Midatlantic states have been without power going on four days now.
I just saw where 911 was down for 48 hours in Virginia.
People who are smart are hunkering down because traffic signals are down, too.

No one is talking about it, because they don't have any communication.

Shhhh...Don't tell anyone, It's election season.

We're not all powerless.

Well, I'm south of Petersburg, almost in NC and it was northern VA that got it bad. The storm Friday night was beautiful! The lightening was continuous - and I mean continuous for almost an hour. Lots of very high wind gusts but almost no rain. I did some yard work early the next morning and then sat in the shade to watch 'chicken TV' till either the power came back on or it got late enough to head out and track down a place for lunch that had power. About 11:30 I heard the power come on (.. what makes that sound anyway???) and started hosing everyone down and filling water troughs/buckets

Here's a link to the local news and some picts of the damage.

Hubby worked 12 hours today for one of the main power companies in MI. They usually run 16s, but with the heat index over 110, they sent guys home. I imagine the same is occurring for other states. Power is a necessity, but it's not worth killing the guys that are restoring it.

I really don't like his job, because I know it can kill him, but he's had it long before we were together, so I don't complain to him. He's as safe as the guys he works with. It just seems that every holiday there is a storm here in MI that requires him to work, and I get moody about folks when they complain about the restoration time :) I just want him to come home safe.

Power isn't a necessity people lived without it for a long time.

And the people that complain about how long it take to restore are just fools.

It kinda is when you've set your life up around its convenience and usefulness....Someone with a freezerful of meat isn't going to go out and suddenly build a smoke house or jerk 200lb of venison.

As I've always said, the radical environmentalists would only need a week or two of reality before they went crying home to mommy.
