The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Very nice looking chickens and rooster! We got 2 slw about 3 weeks ago-they were only a couple of days old-boy do they grow FAST!! We are furiously working on the coop-the recent snow fall is not helping with the progress! We need some warm, dry days fast! I am afraid they will out grow their tempory house before we can get them into their new house!
Our slw are still to young to tell if they are hens or roos-and we are so new to this we have no idea! We also have 2 leghorns that we are not sure whether they will be hens or roo's. Would LOVE to have a WELL BEHAVED rooster!! ha ha Also have 2 Amberlinks and 2 New Hamshire Reds. Having a great time getting to know the girls!

Checking in on this thread for the first time after lurking for a while. I breed Guineas and Swedish Flower Hens, but last Spring we rescued a SLW pullet and added her to our laying hens (various free ranging girls) and my DH just loves her. So, I ordered some hatching eggs from Watson Ridge Ranch and I'm growing them out and hope to get some lovely birds. Glad to see this active thread, I'm sure I'll learn a lot here. I have been on BYC for several years, and have been active on the NC thread and the SFH thread. Thanks for all the good info.

Yup. I have gotten a bunch of best of breeds, some first places, and I got 2nd place cock bird at the ohio national. I think he would have done better if he didn't blow all his feathers the week before lol. Going to be showing 4 of my silvers this weekend. Hoping to do well and bring some nice ribbons home :).
