The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Pics
A friend and bought SLW chicks from a feed store. We were thrilled to find some. I have two 4 1/2 year old hens and love them. But as my chicks grew, they got UGLY! They don't even look like dotties! They are black with white tipped feathers. I have seen a few pics on this thread that look like mine, that makes me feel a little better. I know my chicks are hatchery quality, looking at the gorgeous birds on this thread almost makes me ashamed of my little ugly chicks. Are they really SLW? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it.

Don't worry they will eventually get some lacing :). I even had some of my silvers from a show line start looking like this! It will take at least 8 months to really see their true markings.

Can anyone help me with the sex of these slw chicks.I understand that there is really no way to know the sex of chicks until they are older but even guesses will help me.

I am just really worried because I have had bad experiances with roos. ANYTHING will help. Thanks.

Far from a Wyandotte expert but I'd say top one is a pullet and other two are cockerels. The top two I'm most confident about. Last one could still go either way to me.

Thank you Dracoe19!!!

They were looking so ugly that I thought I had mixed breed mutts. Whew! So just have patience and wait for their true colors to come shining through! Hey! There's a song about that

Thank you, Thank you!!

I have 2 SLW I bought from TSC. They sure due look the ugly ducklings compared to the show quality birds most of you seem to have. Will have to invest in a couple show birds eventually.

I originally thought I had a pullet and a cockerel but now I'm thinking maybe 2 pullets? The one has a single comb and while it's a decent size it's staying pretty yellowy orange. The other has the rose comb and it's also pretty orange. I see the start of wattles but there's no size or redness to them yet. .... Any hope of my two getting decent lacing when they're older? Oh and they're 4 weeks and a couple days.

I've always thought this one to be a pullet

My Single Comb who I thought was a cockerel and now I'm not so sure.
