The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I don't have any roosters so it's not caused from that. I am leaning towards mites. I notice some of my other hens starting to get thin feathers in the same area. Also I gave the bald hen a coating of blu-cote, and the next day I noticed her beak and comb were a all blue, leading me to believe she is picking her own feathers. Sprinkled some seven dust under their roost, and I am going to try and give each bird a dusting of seven within the next few days. Hopefully this will help!

I don't think it has anything to do with roosters VS hens, any of them could get mites or lice. Have you seen any bugs? They can be tricky to spot, but if you look around the vent area or under wings, you might be able to see what they look like.

I would dust them under the wings and around the vent once a week for three weeks, this seems to be the prescribed method whether it's lice or mites and it totally worked for my roo.

I cleaned the coop thoroughly and dusted with the powder then put clean pine shavings in every week too. Cleaning out all feathers that dropped was key in getting rid of them as well if they're lice because they lay their eggs on the feather shaft. Good luck with it, the darn things are nasty!

Can you tell me where you got your bantam SLW eggs or if you have any to sell? I love my Slw bantams and had a trio. Critter, no longer on this earth, got my little roo and one hen. I've repaired and secured the pen but new to get some more for my little Molly. Any help would be appreciated. Eggs or chicks!

You are all cordially invited to the first Annual (Maybe) Lake Elsinore, CPP/BYC South meet-up. The date is November 15 and the location will be at Lakepoint Park, at 420 E Lakeshore Dr Lake Elsinore, CA. 92530. Starts at 10am until dusk. There are trees, a playground, restrooms, and a limited amount of picnic tables w/bbq's (3 in the area). Plenty of parking, but will have to make an aprox 100 yard walk. The spot is overlooking the lake and the weather should be perfect. So come one, come all and tell a friend and pack a picnic lunch.
Feel free to add what you're looking for or what you want to bring. And please share the tread. Any questions, PM me... Thanks...

Hello all, I'm looking for some nice PQ SLW's girls if anyone has any that are around 8 to 10 weeks old in the Lake Elsinore, Ca. area or close proximity. Thanks.

If you have roos and they are over mating your hens , it is quite common. But lice and mites can cause serious health issues in your birds and also have an impact on the quantity of eggs they lay. Northern fowl mites also transmit diseases like MG , coryza, infectious laryngitis etc. the important thing to remember , is that they are a re occurring problem. So long as you have wild birds and or rodents of any kind frequenting your coop you will need to stay vigilant. Always re treat 10 days later to kill off any hatching eggs. Don't forget to clean the coop back to bare surfaces and spray with a surface spray. There are several pyrethrum products on the market and spinosad / elector is also a good product.

I am new to this site but have had some chickens for a while and I am learning more every day, a breed that caught my eye was the silver penciled wyandotte breed from what I have read they are a rare breed and from the limited amount I've seen I believe so too, Google has pictures but people seem to get them confused with the plain silver laced wyandottes and the silver penciled rock breed, does anyone know where I could get some hatching eggs or maybe some full grown hens/rooster? All the hatcheries I've looked at don't even have them as an option to buy from. Please help me!
