The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Hey all, I'm brand new here! We are embarking on our first foray into chickens and have four sweet chicks: a golden sex link, a cream legbar, a rhodebar, and a silver laced wyandotte. The first three are all sex linked so be questions as to sex there, but we're hoping our SLW is a female for sure, even though my son got to name her and picked Jacob Jr. I'd love to know what you all think. She's about 5 weeks old now.

Hey all, quick question..my breeder stock SL Wyandotte popped out a single comb chick..I'm new to this and am wondering if I breed her will she have single comb chicks? Or will they be rose combs? Thanks all

She can still produce rose comb chicks, but most would recommend that you don't breed a single comb forward. Single comb is recessive so it will pop up again down the line. If you are just raising egg layers for your flock then it's up to you. If you are selling them it's another story. I would be pretty upset if I purchased SLW with the single comb gene. In fact that happened to me this spring and I culled every single one of them and started with a new supplier.

We finally picked up our first chickens!! We were looking for Dominiques, but ended up picking up 6 Silver Laced Wyandottes. We went with the Wyandottes because they were the only ones left in town! AND we absolutely loooove them!!
