HOW SOON DO THEY BEGIN LAYING? ANY TENDENCY TOWARDS BROODINESS?

So far, my only experience with Wyandottes are with Blue Laced Reds. I bought two laying hens a while back, and one went broody THE DAY I brought her home. She was an EXCELLENT mother. The other hasn't been broody at all, but she is one of my best layers.

Update on hatching eggs: Tonight is day 21 for my eggs. 5 of the SLW eggs made it to lockdown and I have 4 pips today!

This is my first experience at hatching eggs, and actually I have a friend incubating them for me. (I haven't been able to talk DH into the NECESSITY of an incubator...yet.

) Keep your fingers crossed that they hatch all right!

blue laced reds sounds amazing. i dont think ive ever seen any.

Edit. I just looked them up they are gorgeous. we are not far away. maybe someday we can trade some chicks or if you ever have extra i would love to get some.

Well, out of 9 eggs, 5 made it to lockdown. The others were either clear or had a blood ring earlier on. All 5 hatched!

2 were super strong and popped right out. The other 3 took a VERY long time and had some issues with dried membranes and they seemed weak. I think they'll make it, though. I'll pick them up from my friend this afternoon and then, of course, pictures!

My prettier BLRW up and died on me unexpectedly a month or so ago. I still have one and she's a great layer. I just had 5 SLW hatch out! If I hatch some BLRW I'll let you know.
