Tara began to help prepare some food, “can I use what’s in the fridge?” She asked quietly
"Sure," Alina said, turning and eyeing the contents. "It's probably going to have to be quite a hotch-potch of a meal, but no worries."

“If you would like I can head to the grocery store and pick up some veggies” Tara offered
 
Alina shot her father an agonised glance, but said nothing. Calder noted the glance, and also said nothing.
"My first daughter," Chris replied, his voice steady.
“Oh” Tara saw the agony in Alina’s glance “I’m sorry for your loss.” They would probably wonder how she could tell that they had lost someone but one person who’s experienced loss to another you can tell. She bit her lip to stop herself from crying
