The Story of a Broody LEGHORN!

It's normal for most broody hens to ignore you when they're on the nest. I've had a few that would take things from me but most of them are "in the zone" lol. They will get up when they're ready to eat, drink, and potty.
My White Leghorn was a great Momma hen too, even though I was told broodiness was bred out of the breed. I guess even Leghorns can't resist cute little peeps being raise next to them, lol.

I don't think she has done enough to eat or drink I got her to drink out of a shot glass one day that I held up to her beak.... finger crossed!!!

Have you tried feeling her crop to see if there's anything in it? She might be coming off for food when you aren't looking. And if she is eating, then you don't need to bother her about it.

If she really doesn't seem to be eating, you could try lifting her off the nest and putting her by the feeder or waterer, at some distance from the nest. For some hens, that is enough to get them started eating, drinking, and pooping--then they run back to the nest again.

i have a broody frizzle cochin...she is sitting on one little egg, it should hatch by the end of this week, when i went to check on her, i noticed a peck in the egg shell, its not through the membrane..just the shell is cracked...did she do this trying to move the egg around or is something else going on, im new to broody hens..will the baby chicke inside the egg live

Is it a pip or a crack?

she broke right through to the baby....and i can see it moving..its 91 degrees here today....ill just leave it on the porch in a box, if it dies....or it will hatch, not sure what to do..it was bloody a bit
Keep it under the broody and see what happens. If you take it out the humidity will be all out of whack and that means there is less of a chance of it hatching.
