Once upon a time ( in may) we were shipped 10 Guinea hens from a hatchery. After opening the box to discover 5 hadn't made the trip, we were bummed. Vetryan15(hubby) suggested replacements, but it was a Saturday night and we wouldn't be able to reach anyone until at least Monday.

I focused on the surviving keets. Placed them in their brooder, dipped beaks in the marble filled water container, and checked the temperature. In the morning Vetryan15 exclaimed to me that none had survived, not to look he will take care of them when he returned from town. Saddened by this new I continued my day, when my dog Gypsy kept pawing at the brooder. I took her away but happened to notice 2 keets breathing! Their mouths opening and closing.

The keets were in bad shape, that is not to be argued with. I quickly acted making a concoction of sugar water and filled an eyedropper. I gave tiny chest compressions very gently. I checked the temperature again to make sure they weren't chilled. I took a baby blanket and used it for bedding to make sure they were as comfortable as possible. When the hubby returned home I explained to him I had found a few still hanging on. We worked diligently together with yogurt and eye droppers.
3 hours later one of the keets began jumping around! It climbed out of the little intensive care box I had made! We continued care as best we could.

The next morning we were down to one. The jumper. He kept climbing on my knee. I put him by the woodstove and checked the temp constantly while we watched looney tunes and chef Ramsay together. ( you shijlda heard the sounds she made at chef!)
When the gunea started alerting during looneytunes Singing oh suzanna I knew it would be a good idea to name it Banjo.

Banjo now has 6 brothers and sisters much younger than her. She looks out for the flock of 28 chickens, 3 ducks and 6 turkeys. She gets mad of I'm not outside and jumps on my porch and starts yelling at me to come out. When she is hungry she screams outside the camper door where I keep her food.
She alerted us all last night to 2 baby raccoons in the front patch of woods by my driveway. She did this before my coonhound noticed them.
Thank you Banjo we love you and are so glad you pulled through.

That is the story of Banjo the Guinea hen, I will post more of her adventures as she has them.
