I got Lucky from tractor supply as a less than a week old red sex link chick. I held her alot, she especially liked to perch on my shoulder.

When she was a little older (8- 10 weeks) we had are first ever predator attack and Lucky's eye was injured

I put her in a cage on my front porch and put some unmedicated eye wash in her eye. She stayed in the cage overnight and then was returned back to coop #2 in the morning. Lucky wasn't accepted back into the pecking order so she stayed by the ducks pool (i had 2 ducks at the time) that was in the corner of the coop.

When Lucky was around 12 weeks old she started opening her injured eye and it was obvious she couldn't see out of it

Soon after that my dad built a more secure, predator proof coop (coop #3) and moved all the chickens (not the ducks, though) including Lucky into it. In coop #3 Lucky would perch all day and wouldn't come down (by then she was scared of most chickens) so I moved her back to coop #2 with the ducks but by then we had 5 ducks one which was a 5 month old drake who would mate with her every time she came down off the top of the brooders in there. Then I moved her to coop #1 which almost everyone in there was nice to her but she was scared of everyone in there and a hen ended up attacking her so I moved her back to coop #2.

Now Lucky is around 18 weeks old and my dad recently built a big brooder (brooder 3) in coop #1 and Lucky is in there amongst 14 6-8 week old chicks and she is finally happy.

If I had to use 4 words to describe Lucky, the words i would use are sweet, friendly, delicate, and nervous but she is truly much more than 4 words can describe for she is my favorite chicken and always will be.

Beautiful story! Hopefully this will help her gain confidence. Its bad enough having just one good eye but being a chicken, it's on one side of her head so she can never see what's going on, on the other side of her and can easily be attacked. She is truly lucky to have you. Keep her safe!

I'm now designing Lucky a chicken coop on wheels. I already have a frame for it and I will start building it tomorrow or the next day. A friend is giving me a bantam silkie hen to be Lucky's friend in her new coop once its built. The coop is going to be a little small but will be perfect sized for Lucky and a silkie bantam.

I integrated Lucky into coop #1 with the chicks she was with. It went great and the other day I even saw Lucky let Arnold (the rooster) mate with her! Also, Lucky picked out the bottom right nesting box as her nesting box!
