WARNING!! TEAR-JERKER!!

i want to tell you a story about a quail who's time wasnt over yet. for those of you who know this one please let others have a chance to hear it. and forgive me for putting you thru it more than once.

once there was a little bobwhite quail who was just a baby when purchased from the local feed and seed store. the lady took the quail and its 4 mates home with her to add to her ever growing bird collection. the little quail went into the holding "pen" for the babies until they were big enough to go outside in the growing pen. most of the birds did not have names yet as they were for food purposes at some point later in time. however a precious few, usually a injured bird, did recieve names. the lady had a small grey button quail that had a injury by the others. his name was Giggles because the crowing sound he made sounded like giggling. his little beak had been broken by the others from being picked on. Giggles was seperated to heal up alone and safe. one day it came time to put the babies outside in their new larger growing pen. all except giggles went out to the new pen. it was very roomy and cozy. it had a light and 2 decent sized nesting boxes, comfortable bedding and all the food and water any bird could stand to eat and drink.

it was kinda cool at night and the lady worried about the babies doing good out there. the lady and her brother decided to cover 3 sides of the pen to ensure they stayed warm through out the nights. after a few days the lady started to feel good about the move and started to relax a bit. on about the fourth day she went out to check on them and found a bobwhite dead. it was the smallest out of the group. and just didnt seem to have handled the transition well. it wasnt breathing or moving at all. so she scooped it up and laid it on the ground in front of her till she could finish feeding them.

her brother came around to the pen and asked how they were doing. she told him "well one i found one dead". her brother picked it up immediately and started CPR and mouth to beak on it while rubbing it to warm it up. she told him its already dead its no use. he refused to give up on it and said he was gonna at least try to save it. within a few minutes there was a jerking in the legs. the lady thought well thats just the nerves jerking its not really moving. she sat back and watched him work on the little bird. after about 20 minutes or so the little thing started gasping for air and rolling its little head around. intrigued she kept watching and after about an hour it was looking around kinda like in a drunken daze. the longer she watched her brother work on it the more signs of life they both saw in the little bird. after a few hours it was eating and drinking a little and trying to fly away from them. they both decided to keep it inside for a few days just to see what happens. well its been over a week now and Miracle is still going strong and looking good. now everyone knows once you name them they are forever your pet! Miracle has found his forever home in our hearts.

i have attached a picture of Miracle, the quail my brother saved recently. i hope all of you think twice before just writing them off as i did Miracle in the beginning of his journey to steal our hearts forever. by the way, Miracle and Giggles are housed together inside our home. neither will ever be put outside to live! i hope you enjoyed our story of Miracle.

for those of you here who are on my other group, i do apologize for you having to read this twice!

you are very welcome! it just goes to show how far a little selflessness and kindness can go if we just stop thinking only of ourselves. i have such a big heart for animals and people. we never found out why Miracle nearly died on us. he is healthy and seems to be happy now inside with Giggles.

it definately makes you stop and think a little more doesnt it? i feel so bad for not checking closer and just being ready to toss him so quickly. i try not to get too attached to my birds if i plan to eat them.
