I don't know.

"Spangled" can mean at least two different things:
--the pattern found in Hamburgs and Spitzhaubens and Brabanters. That is caused by the pattern gene and a particular combination of other genes. I can't be positive, but I don't really think your birds have that one.

--the pattern found in Russian Orloffs and Old English Game Bantams and Cornish, that is caused by the mottling gene (quite similar to the pattern of Speckled Sussex and Jubilee Orpingtons). I don't really think your birds have that one either.

I suppose your birds could have one or the other of those sets of genes, but I think it's more likely that they just have some dots of color that are not related to any of the genes known to cause a "spangled" appearance.

But I really do not know for sure.

Marshmallow doesn't look much like his mom at all aside from his feet feathering. Bruce definitely took her color genetics through him though.

Teryaki is Marshmallow's mom and Bruce's grandmother. She's a Black copper maran

Here's my birds family tree. Minus birds that never bred. BTW I plan to breed Barbara in spring.

#1, 2, & 3 are Lace, Daffodil, and Honey

If none of them have the pattern gene (lacing, penciling, some kinds of spangling), and if none of them have mottling, then I would not expect to see such things in their offspring either.

Black Copper Marans do not have the pattern gene or mottling.
Crested Cream Legbars do not have the pattern gene or mottling.
I don't remember what other breeds are in your mix.

Sampson bred teryaki which resulted in marshmallow. Sampson is a Golden commet x golden duckwing pheonix cross.

I bred marshmallow to his half sister who is the daughter of Sampson and a Crested cream legbar. Resulting in the new chicks.

Golden Comet and Golden Duckwing Phoenix should not have the pattern gene or the mottling gene.

So with that family tree, I do not think Marshmallow or his son could have the kind of spangling caused by the pattern gene, or the kind caused by the mottling gene.

So not a true pattern then? Just a luck of the genetic draw?
