THE SWAP THREAD "FEBRUARY"

Kimmie, TheNewChick, yes, I am your swap partner. The eggs arrived, great packaging. I've been having a real problem getting my Little Giant to regulate temps, ranging from 97 to 105 degrees without me making any adjustments. I've tried everything, but I'm so sorry, it looks like I cooked your eggs.

I feel like such a bad swap partner!

I would not say, at all, that 105* would cook eggs. I let my homemade 'bator go up to 120* and, out of 7 eggs, two still hatched

Awww, it's okay. If the temps weren't spiked that high for too long they may still be okay... Try to keep the temps down as much as possible and just see what happens... If you want I could send you some more, just let me know.

I'm glad they were packaged well, that makes me feel alot better.

I couldn't wait any longer, I had to know. I candled them and 4 out of 8 are growing, but it is only day 6, so I am going to give it a few more days and try again. After a series of events out of my control, 4 out of 8 would actually be really good odds. Post Office never notified me that my eggs were here, the mail carrier put the eggs in my mailbox on a 32 degree day for a couple hours (hopefully they were running late like they seem to always do), and when I did get home and pick them up, my power was out for a couple hours (I also had put 8 of my own eggs in the day before, 5 of those 8 are developing too). Those big white eggs give me visions of lots more big white eggs (Unless of course I end up with all roosters, my luck would end that way).

i got 6 eggs in and one was cracked. so 5 went in my sportsman. candled mine and looks like only 1 is fertile the rest look clear and they r on day 7-9 somewhere. have to check callander to see how many days in now. leaveing them in a few more days just to be sure, i'm so bummed.

We have to remember that clear eggs does not mean the eggs were not fertile, it means more than likely they did not grow. That could be caused by a lot of factors other than being non-fertile. As mentioned, shaking, cold, heat , x-rays etc....

While it is always soooo disappointing to put eggs in the bator and be unsuccessful we cannot let it discourage us from future swaps. I have, on more than one occasion, paid top dollar for eggs plus shipping and ended up with nothing to show for it. Shipping eggs is a gamble.

Personally I breathed a sigh of relief when my swap partner was in my same state. I figured it gave the eggs a better chance of being viable when she got them.

May we all be blessed with chicks if not in this swap then in the next....
