I am completely fascinated by dinosaurs, I wish they would make more shows like the walking with dinosaurs series, there needs to be more shows, I love all dinosaur related information.
I am subscribing because while I am not an expert, the whole Chickens descended from Dinosaurs theory is interesting.
My flock occasionally get referred to as “my little raptors” and while they are all cute and feathery, I definitely would not want to be a grasshopper, mouse etc in their presence and the resulting take-down can easily be compared to scenes in Jurassic Park
I do know that they look like little dinosaurs when they run .. however, is that because any movies with dinosaurs have been created with a similar running style to a chicken .. never having seen a real dinosaur running, who knows
Chickens are descendants of raptors, there is even a gene that they can manipulate that allows chickens to grow teeth, though as far as I know they destroy the embryos that they mess with.
Yes! more walking with dinosaurs! I would go get my paleoart, but my webcam isn't working. About them manipulating genes, they have not let those embryos hatch, mainly because that is not the finished project.
It's not just chickens -- all birds descended from dinosaurs. In fact, I've often seen birds referred to as the one surviving branch of the dinosaurs. As more and more fossils are discovered showing traces of feathers on dinosaurs, there isn't as much of a clear-cut distinction between the two groups anymore. Archaeopteryx was long considered "the first bird" because of the presence of feathers, but now we know that simply having feathers isn't enough to be called a bird. There's a whole gray area of bird-like dinosaurs that makes drawing distinctions between the two a messy affair. But that's the thing -- if you go back far enough, the lines between two groups will blur.
Very true. I actually sketched a velociraptor with a chicken comb. I'm glad to see some others that are interested in paleontology here! There really should be more dinosaur forums.
