I purchased a bottle of Denagard and started my whole flock on the medicine. From reading other posts about Denagard it has been suggested to add some type of sweetner to mask the bitter taste. I decided to have a taste of the water I was about to give to my flock. WOW!!! Has anybody else this water? It is horrible. I cannot imagine any critter would drink this.
I used the dosage of 16 ml/cc of the denagard per gallon which I figured is just a bit over a Tablespoon.
After tasting this water, I added about 1/2 cup of table sugar. It was still nasty. I then added about 1/2 cup of corn syrup.
And well, even after all this sweetner, it is still bitter and makes your tongue go numb.
How much sugar is too much?
I did finally end up giving water/suar/denagard mixture to everyone. They did seem to drink it.
Has anyone had a problem with their chickens not drinking this medicated water?
Has anyone else tasted this vile water? I am wondering if the chickens have the same taste buds as we humans do?
And finally can I be adding too much sugar to the water? Will too much sugar kill the birds?

Yes it is terribly bitter. I've added honey, maple syrup, sweet cherry juice and watermelon juice and my hens still avoid it. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
