The Tetra Tint thread.. (Photos, info) ❤

Pics
Somebody gave me two more of these, and I suspect one is a roo. I'll have to post a pic tomorrow.. HIS comb is tall and definitely reddish, and this chick is only a few weeks old. Also, the wattles are pink. I don't know if this one is a different breed, but the other white one they gave me is a clone of my definitely a pullet tetra tint.

I bought 12 Tetra Tints and 6 Golden Comets from Tractor Supply. They are a little over 3 months old and I don't need a bazillion eggs. Since in the past I've had problems with wildlife (raccoons) killing my chickens, I built a chicken coop for 8 chickens. I reinforced my cage and added a wire roof so nothing can get to them. I had 2 Tetra Tints escape and my dog got them before I could, and now I have 6 Tetra Tints and 2 Golden Comets too many. I was thinking about asking around $15 each for them or $100 for all 8. Is this too much? I was going to make a posting on craigslist for central Kentucky. Any help will be great.

Im in Georgetown and have had mine posted for 2 bucks each or trade for other chicks. Not one call on them. I think you may be hard pressed to get 15$ for the comets.

My 7 tetra's and 3 silkie bantams are growing well. Looks like 4 of my Tetras have red/brown breast feathers, two are almost completely white, and the other one has black feathers. The silkie bantams are all bleach white and seem to be the "king kongs". The bantams are a bit older (and bigger) than the silkies.

All of my chickens seem very afraid of me, when I had waxworms for treats they would come up to eat from hand but were very alert and afraid to be picked up. I may get a couple of a more friendly breed. What do you guys suggest? I'd like to have some birds that aren't afraid to be picked up.

At 3 months old, you're probably not going to get more than $5 each for them. Keep them until they start laying and you might make $7-8 each. You might have better luck taking them to a swap. I'm in KY also. Notice the prices on craigslist for purebred varieties. Hybrids usually fetch less money since they won't breed true.
Good Luck!

Thanks guys, I hadn't even looked on craigs list for chickens yet. I didn't know for sure what they were going for. It'll be hard to let them go at 5 a piece since I paid almost 3 a piece for them and been having to feed them for mths now. LOL

All 16 of mine are very friendly. When ever I open the door to my coop, I have to be carefull not to step on one of them. They huddle around my feet. Will eat out my hand, well peck me until I drop the food in my hand, and while they eat I can easily pet on most of them.

Google Henderson's chicken chart. It will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about each breed...docility, egg color and production, broodiness, and some have a link to the breeders' web sites.
I love my wyandottes. They bond to me when very young and the adult roosters are very laid back. I can carry my blue laced red rooster around like Paris Hilton's Tinkerbell

Still curious about Tetra Tint rooster pics. One of my now 12 week olds starting crowing a 6 am today! I don't know which one is the male or they both are. Help!
