Granted....but there are many on here who say they cannot and have no contingency plan in effect when the situation arises. Then we get frantic posts filled with indecision and agony because they did not plan ahead. When one is discussing the truth about chickens, this is one factor that everyone seems to avoid.
It's sad to read about the chickens suffering in the name of "love" and no one loving them enough to put them out of their pain.

NOTE: I have observed in my Life that there are MANY different "definitions" of LOVE. It usually comes down to "What's in it for me?"

1. You will need to:
a. Get up early to let them out
b. Be home when it's time to lock them in at night
2. Be prepared to deal with predators. And I'm not just talking about dealing with the sadness that predator attacks bring. What if you come outside one day to this... what would you do? (PS animal controls mantra is "you trap it you take care of it"):
3. They will eat everything you don't want them to eat... I had no idea that my concrete foundation outside was really styrofoam insulation painted to look like concrete... until the chickens started eating it. I also didn't realize my door and basement window trim were rotted until the chickens ate it. Now I feel like the witch in Hansel and Gretel.

My dh is the designated chicken killer, if that come up. I hope it doesnt!

It will eventually unless you have chosen the only immortal breed, or they magically just grow old with never a problem or ailment and die peacefully in their sleep.
We have discovered, and possibly we have special chickens
but. . . they prefer to poop where they have
adequate clearance. i.e. sidewalk, porch, patio and steps seem especially very pleasing.
If you wear shorts at any time, freckles, moles, bruises or scabs on your legs will become the focus of pecking. It's a curiosity thing. Same things with rings on your fingers, buttons on your clothing, or a bit of fluff that just happened to land on you.
Ditto for earrings. Some folks have lost expensive gemstone ear studs.
Don't let your beloved chicken(s) get too close to your face if you are not wearing glasses. Eyeballs are shiny. Chickens peck at shiny things.
