The masked rider road his horse through a series of twists and turns. He was sure that Edmund wouldn't be able to find them. Dusk had long past. He stopped only for a moment to water his horse. Sure that Gwen was asleep, he removed his mask to wipe the sweat off his face.

If Gwen hadn't been so delirious, she might have recognized the face of the young man. Nausea took over.
 
Gavin approached the flour seller, payed for one bag, and took a second when the shop owner turned his back. He did the same with the eggs, and started back toward the cabin, not thinking that he would have to give some sort of explanation to Katrina about the extra food (

Fawn sped her horse up when she saw three riders with torches.

Edmund slowed his exhausted horse to wait for the big man lagging behind. Emilee tossed her head, her golden curls shining in the torchlight. She looked around them, unsure of where they were.

Gavin trotted up to the cabin and knocked on the door to announce his presence.
Katrina jumped up. She opened the door cautiously. "Ah, Gavin, it's you." She smiled.

Edmund didn't wish to, but Emilee's father insisted they stop for the night. Reluctantly, Edmund dismounted and they made camp.
 
Katrina was too excited about the oranges to consider how Gavin got them. "Yes, of course! Shall we cut one?"

Emilee awoke to the sound of Edmund saddling his horse. She got up and went over to her horse.
"What are you doing?" Edmund whispered loudly.
"I'm coming with ye."
Edmund shook his head. "No, it's too dangerous. Stay here with your father."
"No! I'm coming with ye!" She replied, stubbornly
