*The Verge of War* A Medieval Rp

Peter stood awkwardly near the entrance. He really wished they had gotten further away. Everyone had turned to get a glance at the king and queen. Hopefully Linnet hadn't noticed Jane.

Alena stirs.
Edmund bowed to the king and queen, quickly straightening and looking behind them.
Mariah nodded her head at him and the crowd, trying her best to look pleased. Really, she wasn't impressed at all. The ball room was nothing compared to the hall at Edinburgh castle, with its many grand silk tapestries adorning every wall. At least the floor here was nicely polished and spread wth good smelling herbs and flowers.

Jane tilted her head to see better from where she stood behind the queen. It was a good sized crowd. Smaller than she was used to at her father's castle, but big enough to make for good dancing. She glanced at Sir Peter, trying to discern as much as she could about him from her angle. He hadn't talked much in the carriage, but he was probably just preoccupied with thoughts. She wasn't disappointed that the queen had obviously paired them up.

Linnet searched the room as discreetly as possible for Peter. He must be here by now.
-----
Katrina's eyes widened as she once again checked Alena's pulse. It was growing stronger and steadier. She held the bottle under her nose, longer this time, then set it down. "Alena, can you hear me?" She asked.

Audric smiled broadly. He was happy that his castle bested this estate by far. He happily lead his wife through the crowd, towards the royal table. "Have a seat Darling."

Peter didn't see Linnet. Just as well, she wouldn't be very pleased with the current arrangement. He searched for a place to put the flowers he had brought Linnet.

Alena was slowly coming back into conscious. Somebody was talking to her. Everything sounded muffled. Her head ached. What had happened?

Alfric approached the stalls cautiously, quickly and quietly, trying his best to keep his shoes clean. He paused at the first one he reached and peered in nervously, his heart thumping in his chest. 'It's just a horse.' He repeated as he reached down to open the door. He had to push on it with quite some force before it would let him in, he stumbled forward, quickly stopping himself before he got too close to the horse. She stood in the corner, her back facing him. She hadn't moved, not even when he had burst into her stall. Her coat was rough, white and speckled grey, like ink splashed across a page. 'Hey, horsey.' He whispers, looking around him anxiously. 'Want to go for a ride?'
She snorts gently and bucks her head, turning just enough to see who this intruder was.
'I'm Alfric.' He rubs his neck, he didn't have much time. Who knew when that girl would wake up, and who knew if they'd be coming after him, perhaps they were even searching for him right now. He hushes reassuringly as he approaches her, walking to her side and placing his shaking hand carefully on her back.

Mariah sat down in the stately chair reserved for her. She cast a condescending eye over the crowd, judging immediately who she would talk to and who she wouldn't. There were very few faces she recognized. Most of them were probably of some pathetic Alnwick estate or other. The princess was probably here, so of course she would talk to her and be nice about it.

Jane was slightly offended by Peter's lack of attention, but didn't let it show. She watched him carefully as they walked. He seemed to be in search of something, or someone. "Dear sir, might I inquire why you keep looking about you so desperately?" She smiled up at him.

Linnet finally gave up and went to find Gwen. If Peter was here, he could find her out.

"'Ello, miss? If you can hear me, nod please," Katrina said.

Edwin downed the cup of tea almost immediately. He didn't have the time or patience to sit and sip tea while Alena was on the brink of death.

Audric sat boredly in the corner.

Peter smiled politely. "I was looking for....Edwin." He lied. "I haven't seen him yet, but he was in the carriage with the queen."

Alena heard a voice. She tried to open her eyes, but they were so heavy.

Edmund, after having welcomed the king and queen of Edinburgh, relaxed. Everyone he invited seemed to be here except maybe a few obscure lords and Knights and the prince and princess of Edinburgh. Perhaps their carriage had been delayed.

"I believe he was riding with his sister, the princess," Jane replied. "I'm sure they'll be here soon. They weren't very far behind us."
Fawn, making sure to keep to the edge of the room, wandered over to where the two were. She kept her distance but examined them from where she stood in the corner. She tried to figure out who they were but couldn't, because of the masks.

Katrina poured a glass of water for when Alena was conscious enough to take it.

Edwin nearly ran up the stairs, eager to check on Alena.

Peter sighed. Clearly Linnet hadn't showed up. He pulled out the bouquet, and handed it to Jane. "Care to dance?"

Jane's eyes widened in surprise. "Oh, wow, thank you," she stammered, pleasantly surprised and pleased with where this seemed to be going. "Yes, I should be delighted to," she smiled.

Edmhnd, seeing that the room was full and the guest list nearly completely checked off, signaled to the musicians. They immediately began a waltz while the herald announced the dancing was beginning.
Edmund went over to the queen, merely out of courtesy, and asked for the honor of the first dance. Mariah agreed, seeing that Audric wasn't going to ask anytime soon.
Edmund led her to the center of the room and bowed deeply.

Richard led Linnet, who had agreed to the first dance, nearby. He spun her once then bowed as she curtsied. Linnet wasn't particularly pleased with her partner but it would be rude to refuse him.

(Gwen?)

Edwin entered the room but stopped in the doorway and looked at Katrina."Has she waken?" He asked.
"Ye may come in. 'Tis your room after all," she grinned. "She int quite conscious yet, but I think she can 'ear me somewhat. Maybe ye can rouse her."
Edwin cautiously crossed the floor to the bedside. He took Alena's hand gently in his. "Can you hear me?" He asked
